Sand Art by Andres Amador

Sand Art by Andres Amador

Andres Amador, an artist who makes sand images using only a rake, will be creating some of his beautiful pieces at Ocean Beach this Saturday from 7:30 – 9:30 this Saturday morning. The art is beautiful and ephemeral, since he creates it close enough to the shoreline that the ocean washes it away.

Lucca Ravioli in the Mission

Lucca Ravioli in the Mission

When most people think of the Italians in San Francisco, they think of North Beach where most of the long-standing Italian restaurants are in the city. However, if you’ve been in the city very long, you’ve probably passed by or had the good fortune to stop by Lucca Ravioli on Valencia and 22nd St. in the Mission District. Lucca has been around since 1925 and will make you hungry just looking around the shop. They have deli meats, cheeses, fresh sauces and all kinds of pasta, all made fresh so you can look like an Italian chef when you’re cooking for your friends. If you haven’t been there, stop by and support this locally-owned business.

Free Guided Tours of San Francisco

Free Guided Tours of San Francisco

Whether you’ve lived in San Francisco all your life or are a new arrival, there’s a lot of history in our city and one fun way to learn about it and meet interesting people is to take a free guided tour of a neighborhood and learn about it from a volunteer guide.  San Francisco City Guides offers about 60 tours per month, all over the city and I highly recommend taking some tours.  After all, things are changing in our city and it could be the last opportunity to see some old buildings, hidden parks or interesting piece of architecture.

My Favorite Bahn Mi Sandwiches in San Francisco

My Favorite Bahn Mi Sandwiches in San Francisco

It’s a safe bet that most San Franciscans know what a Bahn Mi sandwich is. For those of you who don’t, it’s a Vietnamese sandwich that typically has cilantro, peppers, carrots, pickled daikon radish and some type of meat. There are a lot of places in the city to find delicious ones, but I have to say that my favorite place is Dinosaur Sandwich in the Castro. The bread always tastes like it was just baked, the meat is never fatty (or questionable), the price is around 5 bucks and the service is always great. They’re papaya salad is pretty mouth watering too!

21 Foods Only San Franciscans Would Understand

Every city and region has its share of local fare, but I’ve been all over the world and have no hesitation in saying that we not only have delicious food and treats here in San Francisco, but are fortunate to have a never-ending supply of fresh fruit and vegetables all year round.  A stroll through one of our city’s many farmers markets would impress anyone.

Yoga, The Art of Transformation at the Asian Art Museum

This is the first exhibit of its kind focusing on yoga and is on display until March 25. For all you San Francisco yogis out there, I encourage you to go support the AAM and take a look at the history and diversity of the practice.
